Thanks to Jonathan Ball Publishers and the Jonathan Ball Kids Book Club, we got our hands on Skandar and the Chaos Trials, the third book in the Skandar series! And if you’re thinking this is another story about sparkly unicorns, think again. These unicorns are elemental, powerful, and pretty wild—definitely not your average magical creatures.
The Plot So Far
Skandar and his friends are now in their third year of training, and things have gotten intense. They’re facing some seriously dangerous trials across different elemental zones of the Island. It’s a real test of teamwork and trust, and the special bond between the riders and their unicorns plays a huge role in getting through these challenges. But not everyone is going to make it.
There’s also the added drama with Skandar’s sister, Kenna. She’s got her own wild unicorn, and she’s feeling left out because of it. Then, when something major happens that threatens the entire Island, she’s the one who gets blamed. Skandar has to figure out who he can trust and just how far he’ll go to protect Kenna and the Eyrie.
Why We Love It
One thing that really stands out about this book is how creative and unpredictable it is. The trials the characters go through are so intense and exciting, they’ll keep you hooked from one page to the next. The friendships and bonds between the characters and their unicorns are also really tested, which makes for some emotional, nail-biting moments. You’ll find yourself rooting for them, wondering what you’d do if you were in their shoes.
Kenna’s journey is another thing we love about the story. She’s struggling with feeling different and isolated, which is something that a lot of readers can relate to. Her story adds a lot of depth to the book, and you can’t help but hope things turn around for her.
Why You Should Pick It Up
If you’re into action-packed fantasy and adventure, this one’s a winner. It’s got just the right balance of magical creatures, gripping action, and emotional moments that’ll make you feel like you’re right there with the characters.
So, if you haven’t already started the Skandar series, now’s the time! And if you’re already a fan, this book won’t disappoint. I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds and where Skandar and his friends end up next!
