My enduring love for Harry Potter: From Gryffindor to Slytherin

If you’ve ever caught me sporting a Harry Potter scarf, shirt, or even a wand, you’d know my love for the wizarding world runs deep. As a child, I couldn’t read the Harry Potter books fast enough. I was completely enchanted. I distinctly remember the thrill of my Grade 8 holiday—an unforgettable time when the final book of the series was released. I devoured it in just two days, and I have to admit, I was emotionally overwhelmed as I turned the last page. The magic felt so real, and it still does.

My Harry Potter obsession didn’t stop with just reading the books. I started collecting them. Although I have almost all the Harry Potter books in my collection, I’m still missing Quidditch Through the Ages (I think that’s what it’s called!). It’s been on my wish list for ages, but in the meantime, I’ve made up for it by adorning my home with Harry Potter memorabilia. Whether it’s my proudly displayed Hogwarts house scarves or the wands that hold a special place in my collection, the wizarding world is always a conversation starter for me.

And speaking of Hogwarts houses—if you had asked me years ago, I would have confidently told you that I’m a Gryffindor. Every quiz I took confirmed it. Courageous, bold, and always ready to do the right thing—that’s how I saw myself. But lately, something has shifted. My husband, a true Slytherin at heart, has convinced me that perhaps I belong in the same house as him. At first, I resisted (I mean, come on, Gryffindor for life, right?). But after some time, I started to embrace the idea. The ambition, the cunning, and the strong sense of loyalty in Slytherin started to resonate with me. Now, I’m more than happy to don the green and silver proudly!

One of my favorite aspects of the Harry Potter universe is the idea of the Patronus charm. Mine? A cat. It’s no surprise, given my soft spot for felines. I’ve always felt a strong connection with cats—their independence, their curiosity, and their protective nature—and knowing that my Patronus is one just feels… right.

And then, of course, there are the wands. I have a set of three wands that were lovingly carved out of wood by a friend. Each one is unique, and holding them feels like tapping into a piece of the magic. There’s something so special about them, and they’re an irreplaceable part of my Harry Potter collection.

So, whether you consider yourself a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, or Slytherin, there’s one thing we can all agree on—the magic of Harry Potter is timeless. From the books to the wands, and from Patronuses to scarves, it’s a universe that continues to captivate, no matter how many years pass.

Now, tell me—what’s your Hogwarts house, and how does the magic live on in your life?
