Navigating the Waves: A Reflection on Mental Health

Lately, I’ve found myself struggling with my mental health. It’s not easy to admit, but the last few weeks have felt heavier than usual. There are days when I wake up feeling like I’m already behind, like I’m running on empty before the day even starts. I’ve been stuck in this space, where just doing the basics—mothering, working, and socializing—feels like climbing a mountain.

Sometimes, I feel like I’m just keeping my head above water, trying not to sink beneath the weight of it all. It’s as though I’ve been existing in a state of survival mode, doing what needs to be done but not feeling truly present. I know I’m not alone in this; so many of us put on a brave face and push through, especially as moms, wives, and professionals. But lately, I’ve had to ask myself—is it wrong to need a small break? To hit pause, just for a moment?

The truth is, there’s so much pressure to always be doing, always be productive, to juggle all the roles we carry with grace and ease. But what happens when you can’t juggle them all? What happens when it feels like you’re dropping the ball, or worse, when you’ve lost your energy and passion for the things you normally love?

I’ve realized that it’s okay to admit when you’re not okay. It’s okay to need space, to need a break, to step back and just breathe. There’s no shame in asking for help or in giving yourself permission to rest. Our mental health is just as important as our physical health, yet so often we ignore it, pushing ourselves to the brink before we acknowledge that something’s wrong.

I’ve been reflecting on what self-care really means. It’s more than a spa day or a few hours of quiet time—although those things certainly help. It’s about recognizing when you need to slow down before you crash. It’s about being kind to yourself, giving yourself the grace to step back from life’s relentless pace and just be.

So, if you’ve been feeling like me, like you’re just surviving instead of thriving, know that you’re not alone. It’s okay to need a break, to admit that sometimes life feels overwhelming. And it’s absolutely okay to take that step back and focus on you for a while. I’m learning that it’s not selfish—it’s necessary.

For now, I’m taking things one day at a time. Some days are easier than others, and that’s okay too. What matters is that I’m trying, showing up for myself as much as I do for everyone else. And if you’re in the same boat, I encourage you to do the same. Take that break if you need it. You deserve it. We all do.
