Starstruck: Meeting the amazing Lira

Tuesday was an unexpected whirlwind at work. During a meeting, my boss casually mentioned being nominated for an award on Woman’s Day, March 8th, with no plus one in sight.

The prospect of dressing up and dining among esteemed individuals excited me beyond words. I quickly jumped in, offering to be her companion for the prestigious evening.

As we settled at our table, I made a rookie mistake. Upon introducing myself to a fellow guest, Lira, I asked for her name, only to realize my blunder as she replied. Cue the internal #FacePalmMoment. I opted for a discreet retreat to my seat, silently cursing my lack of recognition.

Nevertheless, the evening unfolded splendidly. My boss exuded grace as she accepted her award, and I was her biggest cheerleader, snapping away with pride. She truly embodies the essence of a phenomenal woman, and I feel privileged to be part of her journey.

Starstruck moments peppered the night. Devi from Carte Blanche graced the event, adding to the aura of celebrity. Talking about my previous job as a journalist and then learning about my boss’s background as a financial journalist left me in awe—this woman is the epitome of goals!

As the evening progressed, a golden opportunity presented itself. I mustered the courage to approach Lira and asked for a photograph. My boss found it hilariously endearing, later confessing to capturing my starstruck moment on camera.

In the end, it was a night of wins. My boss received recognition for her impactful work, I snagged a coveted photo with Lira, and the evening left me feeling starry-eyed and grateful for the remarkable experiences life throws our way.
