Book Review: The 100-year-old Secret by Tracy Barrett

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. In fact, I finished it within just a few hours of starting it.

I initially purchased this 157-page book for Fathima Zahra, who wanted to try a mystery book. As she was still in the middle of her previous read, I decided to give it a go myself.

The story follows Xena and Xander Holmes, who move to London from America and receive a cryptic note while playing a game. This note leads them to a hidden room and a secret society, where they learn that the famous Sherlock Holmes is their great-great-great-grandfather and have inherited his unsolved casebook.

Determined to solve the cases their ancestor couldn’t, the siblings take on the perfect mystery: finding a prized painting that vanished more than a hundred years ago. As the story progresses, Xena and Xander demonstrate not only the wits of their famous ancestor but also use their own common sense tactics to locate the missing painting.

I highly recommend this book to adventurous teens who enjoy mystery books. The fact that there are four books in the series only adds to the excitement. I’m already on the lookout for the next one!
