Dealing with the emotions when Snowflake was poisoned

This weekend has been nothing short of emotionally devastating. It’s hard to describe the overwhelming emotions that led to my anxiety attacks, but I’ll try. When our beloved cat, Snowflake, was in the animal hospital, barely clinging to life, I never thought I’d be so consumed by fear and helplessness.

The days were filled with tears, prayers, and silent sobs. My mind spiraled, replaying every decision—wondering what we could have done differently, how we might have prevented this. But the truth is, it wasn’t our fault. Snowflake had been poisoned, through an accident. No amount of overthinking could change that, yet the guilt lingered.

In adulthood, I’ve never had a pet for more than three years. Snowflake, though technically Fathima Zahra’s pet, had become a core part of our family. His absence left a void in our home, one that weighed heavily on all of us.

I mentally braced myself for the worst, crying until I passed out from exhaustion, only putting on a brave face for the girls. The fear of losing him, a member of our family, was overwhelming. Even now, with Snowflake home after his release from the hospital, I’m still dealing with the emotional aftermath—a tension headache that hasn’t left me since the weekend began.

It’s been exhausting and utterly draining. And truthfully, I’m not okay right now. But that’s okay, because we all have these moments in life. As Snowflake heals and gains his strength back, so will I.

The most important thing? When life knocks you down, you stand back up. “When your path requires you to go through hell, you do just that—walk through it and come out stronger on the other side.
